10 Creative Things to Do at home during the Corona Virus crisis

So coronavirus is here and unfortunately, it’s not going away anytime soon. It’s limiting our daily lives and changing almost everything for almost everyone but fear not…

Art is Never Cancelled!

There are lots of creative things you can do at home to help lift your spirits and get you and your family through the dark days ahead.

10 creative things to do if you are at home in self isolation…

1. Paint flowers while watching spring arrive. 

The sun is still shining, the flowers are still growing and the birds are still singing.  Spring is a wonderful time of year so why not find those old paint brushes out and paint your own daffodils and tulips. This is a fab one to get the kids involved with and doubles up as spring time learning/home schooling too. Improvise with felt tips, crayons or anything you have, if you don’t have paints.

2. Bake a cake.

Let’s face it we all need a little treat to help get us through this and cake is always a winner. Victoria sponge, carrot cake, chocolate brownies; the choices are endless. Why not make Friday your new bake day and enjoy your freshly baked goodies over the weekend?

3 Make pom poms.

Pom poms are pretty easy to make and all you need is some card and some wool. You can even add faces to them once they are finished to create little characters and make a little family of pom pom people.

4. Draw a mandala and then colour it in.

A mandala is a big circular shape full of smaller geometric shapes and designs, basically like your own big doodle. Have fun and create something wonderful.

5. Write a song and then sing it.

A song can be any words, sung to a tune you already know or made up to a new tune. You don’t need to be a musician to sing about your day or about everything you are looking forward to the most, when this crisis is all over. 

6. Perform a one person play

Its pretty boring watching the same four walls every day so pretend you are somewhere different, pretend you are someone different! Escapism is a wonderful thing which such never be underestimated!

7. Learn some new dance moves

Exercise is essential for keeping a healthy mind as well as a healthy body. There are so many dance tutorials to choose from on you tube so choose one for your ability, put your favourite tunes on and boogie.

8. Watch some online art tutorials.

It’s never too late to learn a new skill or perfect an old one and now you finally have the time. Learn a range drawing techniques, painting methods, how to sculpt and many other things.

9. Read about colour theory.

Colour literally lights up our world and is very much needed right now. Do you remember which colours are primary colours and which are tertiary? And if you mix red and yellow together which colour do you get? This is another good one to double up as home schooling too.
